Abby and Billie’s Panama City wedding was truly one for the books. Laughs, dancing, the great outdoors and a lot of kabobs for this Panama City wedding photographer!
This is my first time photographing a wedding at Double J Farms in Panama City. I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding there one time before, but it coincided with my son’s 6th birthday party and there is no way I was missing that. 🙂 I like to make money, but I want to be there for the big days of my son’s life even more.
Double J Farms is a beautiful place made even more beautiful by the love that Abby and Billie showed one another throughout their wedding day. I had my wife along for this wedding as a second shooter and she did an awesome job capturing Abby and the girls getting ready along with many more beautiful photos. My wife was once a professional photographer herself and we actually met at my first real newspaper gig. (but that’s a story for another day.)
The girls all looked great and the guys were not too shabby, either. I caught up with the boys as they were playing a game of pool in the dude’s dressing area. After we photographed the getting ready part of the day, it was time for my wife and I to take some portraits of the bridesmaids, flower girls and the bride herself. Double J Farms offers several photogenic areas and we started out in a open field just outside of the dressing rooms. The grass was green and the sky blue with scattered puffy clouds which made for a magnificent backdrop for our photos.
After the group photos we moved over to the barn area to get a few bridal portraits of Abby herself. The red juxtaposed against the white really worked well. (I think that Jack White was on to something with the whole White Stripes color scheme.) Now it was time to get some more photos of the guys. We stayed around the barn area and I got a few photos of them with the barn doors. After the dudes were done it was time for the big event of the day.
My wife was stationed inside the barn to get the behind-the-scenes photos and I was between the guests and the barn entrance to get the party as they made their way to the front. One of my favorite photos from the wedding came from this time. The photo of Abby’s father escorting her down the isle really gets me. The way the light is hitting them and the expression on their faces all works together nicely. I did not ask Abby what exactly she was looking at during that moment, but I like to think that she was getting her first glimpse of Billie in his tuxedo.
The ceremony was short and really sweet. Lots of laughs and lots of tears. After the ceremony we took a ton of group photos and then got to do some fun photos of the bridal party with the bride and groom. Double J had a large picture frame that we utilized in a handful of the shots and it made for a pretty cool photo of the bridal party and newly-married couple.
Now it was time for the party. My wife scored me a couple delicious kabobs and some cheese. I do not know if the food was remarkable or I was just really hungry from a long day of photography, but those were the best kabobs I have had in my entire life. Kudos to the caterers. After our snack my wife and I photographed the toasts, dancing and random goodness going on during the party. As twilight approached I gathered up the newlyweds for one more portrait with the lights hanging across the venue. It turned out great and is probably my favorite photo from the entire day.
A big thanks to Abby and Billie for choosing me and my wife as their Panama City wedding photographers. We had a great time, ate some delicious kabobs and got some killer photos.
